Fox is a mix of contradictions when you first see him. He’s grown from the silent stalker he once was, rarely speaking verbally, even in groups, when he can speak to people telepathically instead, but he’s still very awkward about it. Just as he is not used to expressing himself physically, so sometimes his face can come across with a flat affect. He’s learned to mimic actions of seeing people, and it makes it hard from some people to even notice he’s blind. He winks, he turns his head as if looking at people, he follows the auras and energy of living things so he can orient himself in the world without needing to use his assistive device Ada, a lot of things that to the casual onlooked would make him appear to see just fine. He’s really good at coming across like nothing is wrong and everything is fine, because to Fox as long as he’s alive and moving forward with the people he cares about everything will be fine. They can work it out, no matter the situation. So what if he walks into a bookshelf or two, he’s still gonna walk around like he knows exactly where he’s going.
Once Fox has decided someone is his friend, he may tease them or even prank them, but he stays loyal to them. He doesn’t have a lot of close friends, so he treasures the ones he does have, especially after growing up in a society where death and loss is so common among the sands of Vacuo. He’s awkward in new social situations, but if he warms up to you, he’ll stand by you. He'll also probably start talking right into your head without your permission because that's how he spells friendship, and he prefers using his semblance for communication or having to speak verbally.
He is also very playful and sees himself as the “comic relief” of Team CFVY (coffee), as Coco is the Too Cool Leader, Yatsu is rather serious, and Velvet can be very biting and snarky in her commentary when the mood hits her. He uses his telepathy to speak to his team directly, often sending them jokes and puns and other commentary he thinks will raise their spirits. He’s not afraid to pull pranks either, and often makes fun of his own blindness to make people he wants uncomfortable or to show his friends it’s an okay time to laugh. When he and Coco first met, she realized he was blind and he made a melodramatic joke about it as if he had just realized it himself. Having friends has been great for Fox, especially with their willingness to build telepathic bonds with him, because it gives him a sense of community that he hasn’t had in a very long time. He doesn’t feel alone in the world and he’s very protective of keeping that.
Then there’s his resourceful and adaptable side. Fox knows how to make thinks work for him. He grew up in the deserts of Vacuo where they were always on the move and did what he could to make himself useful to his tribe. He’s learned to work with his disability and uses his semblance and ability to sense auras to help him navigate the world around him. Because he doesn’t just sense the aura of people, he can recognize any living creature around him and he’s developed these skills enough that he can move around very easily even in an unknown territory if he focuses himself. If something seems like it would be something he couldn’t do, he’ll find a way to prove you wrong. If he can’t use his semblance, he’ll use his assistive device, if he can’t use his assistive device, he’ll use the senses he does have. He’ll find a way to make it work for him, Just like when he was trapped in the desert alone and had to depend on his natural senses and the nature of the desert to feel out which direction to go in and what people might be nearby.
For all that he’s opening himself up, letting more people in since the creation of the Beacon Brigade at Shade Academy and them managing to stop Jax and Gillian, Fox is still really socially awkward. There were not a lot of other children his own age in his tribe and the ones there were tended to bully him which makes it hard for Fox to connect to other people at times. After his parents and then his Uncle Copper died, he grew up more isolated and entertained himself (part of why he’s not as expressive, along with his telepathy). In new social situations, he often leans on the people he does know or keeps himself a bit distant, which makes him come across as silent and intense. Often, it’s not that he’s not talking, it’s that he’s using his telepathy with his friends and thus doesn’t feel the need to speak out loud (such as the various conversations he has with his team during the Vytal Festival where it appears he’s not speaking at all). If something comes up and he does speak verbally, his peculiar sense of humor and sarcasm often leave people thinking he’s a jerk. He’s also so used to life in Vacuo that he doesn’t always recognize when outsiders see their cultural beliefs and attitudes extreme or disturbing.
Being socially awkward doesn’t mean Fox is afraid of confrontation. Far from it. Fox loves a good fight. He usually won’t initiate it, but if a fight is happening, he probably wants to be involved. There was a point when he didn’t bother to inform his team that desert crabs become disinterested in prey that aren’t moving much, and thus they spent hours fighting a family of them in the desert. When asked why he didn’t tell them, he admitted it was because it would be a waste of a good fight and testing their skills to tell them about such an easy out. Fighting and improving his strength is how he sees himself becoming a better Huntsman and so he often he’ll pick the harder route just because it’s more of a challenge…even if it’s not really best option to have picked. Even since the situation with The Crown in Vacuo, he has started to be better at recognizing when to stay back and when to jump into a fight, but he also learned how much he hates being a leader after being forced to be the team leader of FNDU (Fondue). His socially awkward and more quiet nature with unfamiliar people does not make him a good leader on the fly and he’s more likely to argue with his team than not about those decisions he’s not used to making.
Fox also has a kind of glaring lack of self-care and will push himself to the limits even when he doesn’t need to. He uses his telepathy regularly throughout the day and overusing of semblance can eat at your aura, but to him it’s just easier to use telepathy than to talk to people out loud. He also can become overstimulated by the world around him when he’s trying to focus, and hates loud noises or very crowded places, which can make it hard for him to extend his senses for navigating the world around him. When he’s on point, he’s great, but when he’s running himself ragged, he doesn’t want to admit when he’s reached his limit. He’ll keep trying until his aura runs out and he can’t use his semblance anymore for a while. This all just comes back to how much Fox hates being underestimated and will do what he can to prove others wrong about his capabilities, even if it wears him down in the end.
Fox doesn’t have a lot of fears. He’s been very self-reliant and firmly believes there isn’t anything he can’t overcome with enough effort, thanks to growing up blind and being from Vacuo, where resiliency is a core cultural trait. What he does fear is being left alone, cut off from people entirely (which he feels anxiety about when his semblance is shut down by someone else and he can’t communicate that way), and from being treated as lesser than because of his disability. Even as a child, he was so determined to prove people wrong that he went out in the rain to try and build mud bricks on his own to help his parents repair their small hut. This stubborn desire to be treated as an equal is also the reason why he lived when the rains caused the sinkhole their settlement had been built over to collapse and took out half of their settlement. His parents didn’t survive but he didn’t spend a lot time mourning them because death and loss is so common in Vacuo, whether from Grimm or from the megafaunus and poisonous creatures that also live out in the sands, that the people are used to it. You pick yourself up and move on.
Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping:
- Aura/Aura-Sensing : Aura is something that everyone has on Remnant. It is an extension of a person’s soul and can be uses to protect themselves in the form of aura armor around their bodies in a fight, or used in combat offensively when fed into their weapons or the world around them. Fox’s aura control is strong he can pump his aura through his weapon directly into Grimm and cause them to explode and do damage to other Grimm around them. Fox also has an extremely high level of aura-sensing abilities, able to recognize each person’s and living things aura individually despite being unable to see aura. He’ll use the phrase “seeing” but it’s a very unique sensory experience for him, and he can even recognize when someone else’s aura has been mixed with another person’s or has overtaken theirs (such as the case with the Crown and Gillian’s aura in Before the Dawn). Fox’s aura sensory abilities has a fairly wide range, but the more input he gets, the harder it is to separate so he starts to shrink his range and focus on specific people/groups or areas instead. He skill also allows him to sense just how much aura a person has, such as when he recognized just how huge a well of aura his teammate Coco has (which makes sense considering her semblance is pumping her aura into things). In terms of Warping, I think his aura malfunctioning at times to the point where he has none (thereby also preventing him from using his semblance or sensing abilities) could work, but as a more permanent feature his aura is less stable, thereby making him more likely to burn himself out if he’s not careful.
- Semblance : TELEPATHY comes in two parts, one (1) is the ability to create a two-way connection to people that allows him to send them his thoughts and to hear theirs in return, this has been less necessary in the months since they stopped Carmine and Bertilak in After the Fall and he’s becoming more adept at using one-way connections, too. He can sense people but they can’t sense him. This also means he can project his thoughts out to a group, so far the largest group he’s managed is around a couple hundred people and it really wears him out. Two (2) of his Telepathy is the ability to sense a person’s mind and get a general sense of them. It allows him to use his telepathy as a sort of radar for sensing the people around him but like his aura-sensory abilities, it only has a certain amount of radius and that radius shrinks the more he wears himself out (someone masking their aura doesn’t mask their mind, for example). For people and creatures like the Grimm there is an emptiness, a void, as they do not have souls and are creatures of pure negativity. For Warping, having his telepathy activate without him doing it, thereby having him listening in on the thoughts of those around him unintentionally and becoming overstimulated if he cannot shut it off.
- Enhanced Senses : Fox has honed his other senses due to his blindness, which gives him better hearing, a more discerning sense of touch, taste, and smell. For the purpose of Warping, perhaps sometimes his senses stop working as they normally do. He’ll lose his sense of smell or his sense of taste or his hearing for brief durations of time.
- Hunter Training: : Fox went to Beacon Academy for two years before the Fall and then traveled to Vacuo to attend Shade Academy with his team, where they have been training for almost a year and a half. He’s technically on his third year as a student but it’s really his fourth because Shade had them retake a year. And in that time, team CFVY has been doing their own investigations and missions to improve their preparedness for when they become full-fledged Huntsman and Huntresses. As to Warping I feel leaving this alone since it is most effective connected to his other abilities.
- Blindness : Fox was born blind (to the point his eyes lack visible iris and pupil like everyone else in the canon) and while he refuses to think of it as a weakness, it can be both a benefit and a hindrance. It allows him to be immune to all attacks that are eye/vision-based, but also means that he can misjudge things if he doesn’t have outside input. He may be able to sense aura and energy, but that doesn’t stop him from walking into things or misjudging distance sometimes.
Inventory:
- Sharp Retribution : Bladed tonfas that he wears on his hands and wrists. The blades can be moved from the elbow position to across his fists and have ranged dust bullet capabilities. They also have the ability to channel his aura/energy into a stronger attack, such as sharpening the blades of the tonfa or creating a stronger punch that causes a lot more damage.
- Scroll : Fox’s scroll which is a smartphone type device for the world of Remnant.
- ADA : Accessibility Dialogue Assistant (Ada). This is an ear-bud shaped device that connects to Fox’s scroll that allows him to navigate the world. It sends sonar pulses into the surrounding area to scan it and then verbally related the information of the setting back to Fox himself. Ada is meant to adapt to the person using it and also has a compass to orient the user generally. Ada also has a battle mode called Cyrano Protocol that scans the area regularly assessing their surroundings, weapons nearby, potential weapons, and assesses their opponent, their weapons, and tries to predict their fighting style.
- Outfit : Fox’s general outfit of combat pants, belt and pouches with various dust bullets, a tight sleeveless shirt, combat boots, and general undergarments.

Permissions for Character: Permissions
Are you comfortable with prominent elements of fourth-walling?: Yes
What themes of horror/psychological thrillers do you enjoy the most?: Psychological horror, where characters begin to doubt their own mind and perceptions, having their worst fears/flaws thrown at them in ways that lay their most vulnerable parts bare. I also love suspense where the characters are trying to get out of a situation with ambiguously dire consequences as the tension rises and the clock ticks down. I also enjoy trauma and torture that doesn’t get overly gratuitous but has some kind of link to the character instead of just generalized torture. A character’s past coming back to haunt them in horrific ways is also always fun.
Is there anything in particular you absolutely need specific content warnings for?: Anything with animal abuse, vore, or related to bowels. Visuals of spiders. Written descriptions/involvement is fine, but pictures. Also glorification of alcoholism and drug addiction.
